Introduction
The intranet's search function lets you quickly find people, documents, posts, groups and events — all at once. The global search covers the entire platform, so you don't have to choose a section first.
In this article you'll learn how search works, how to search across the intranet and within chats, and what to do if you can't find what you're looking for.
How does search work?
Search is available everywhere on the intranet through the search field in the top menu bar. As soon as you start typing, results appear instantly, neatly grouped by content type.
You can search for, among other things:
- People: colleagues by name, department or role.
- Documents: files and information pages.
- Posts: publications and updates that mention your term.
- Groups: teams, projects or communities.
- Events: activities in the calendar.
Search works on both desktop and the mobile app. In the app, the search icon (magnifying glass) is at the top of the screen.
Running a search
Here's how to search on the intranet:
-
Click the search field in the menu bar.
- Type your search term. For example:
- the name of a colleague
- a topic, such as communication
- a department, such as Finance
- Review the results that appear directly below the search field, grouped by content type.
Understanding search results
Results are automatically split by content type, so you can see at a glance where the relevant information lives:
- Posts that contain your search term
- People with this term in their profile
- Documents and information pages
- Groups
- Events
Each section shows the first few results. Click More to view all results within that category.
Want to narrow your search? Click directly on a specific category like People, Posts, Documents, Groups or Calendar. You'll then only see results of that type.
Searching within a chat
Besides the global search, you can also search within a specific chat — useful for quickly finding an earlier message or arrangement.
- Open a (group) chat.
- Click the magnifying glass in the top right.
- Type your search term. Messages containing your term appear directly in the chat view.
Troubleshooting
I'm getting no or very few results
- Check your search term for typos.
- Try a shorter or more general keyword (for example finance instead of Q2 financial reporting).
- Try a synonym or a different relevant term.
- Check that you have access to the group or document — restricted content does not appear in your results.
I can't find a colleague or document
- Search by part of the name instead of the full name.
- Click the People or Documents category to search only within that type.
- Ask the owner whether the document or profile is visible to your role.
I can't find a message in a chat
- Use the magnifying glass inside the chat instead of the global search.
- Make sure you're searching in the right (group) chat.
- Scroll up to load older messages before searching again.
