Introduction
The notifications overview is the central place in BCS Connect where you can see at a glance everything that has happened on your intranet — from replies to your posts to invitations for events. It makes sure you never miss an important update, even if you haven't logged in for a few days.
In this article you'll learn how to open the notifications overview, how to recognise notifications by their icons, and how to mark them as read or filter them.
The notifications overview is available on both desktop and the BCS Connect app. The interface may look slightly different per device, but it works the same way.
How does the notifications overview work?
Whenever there is activity that is relevant to you, you receive a notification. These notifications are collected in the notifications overview, so you can review them whenever it suits you. Each notification is preceded by an icon that indicates what the notification is about.
Types of notifications you can receive:
- Attention requests: someone is specifically asking for your attention, for example through a mention (@name).
- Replies: someone has replied to a post you have created or are following.
- Likes: someone likes your post or comment.
- Events: you have been invited to an event, or something has changed in an event you are involved in.
Opening the notifications overview
Follow these steps to view the full overview of your notifications:
- Click the bell icon in the left-hand sidebar. A drop-down menu with your most recent notifications appears.
- At the bottom of the drop-down menu, click View all notifications.
-
The full notifications overview now opens. You'll see all your notifications sorted chronologically by date, with the most recent at the top.
Marking notifications as read and filtering
If you've received a lot of notifications, it helps to mark them all as read at once or to use a filter so that only certain notifications are shown.
Marking all notifications as read at once
- Open the notifications overview (see Opening the notifications overview).
- Click the eye icon in the top-right corner.
- All notifications are immediately marked as read. The red indicator on the bell icon disappears and you start with a clean overview again.
Finding specific notifications using the filter
- Click the filter icon in the top-right corner of the notifications overview.
- Choose one of the following options:
- All notifications — shows everything, regardless of status.
- Read notifications — shows only notifications you have already viewed.
- Unread notifications — shows only new notifications that still need your attention.
- The overview adjusts immediately based on your choice. You can change the filter at any time or set it back to All notifications.
Start your working day with the Unread notifications filter. That way you can see at a glance what's new since yesterday, without being distracted by older messages.
Troubleshooting
I don't see any notifications at all
- Check whether the filter is set to Unread notifications; it's possible all notifications have already been read.
- Refresh the page (F5 or Ctrl/Cmd + R) to load the most recent notifications.
- Make sure your notification settings are not disabled in your profile settings.
The red indicator on the bell icon won't go away
- Open the notifications overview and click the eye icon to mark everything as read.
- Refresh the page if the indicator is still visible afterwards.
I'm missing notifications I expected to receive
- Check in your profile settings which types of notifications are enabled.
- Sometimes notifications are only shown after you reload the page.
The problem persists
