Introduction

There are often many groups in BCS Connect, for example for departments, projects, locations or a drinks club. As a member of a group, you can see the group's messages, documents and events. In this article, you will learn how to find groups, how to join them and how to leave a group again.

A group can be open, private or hidden:

• Open (eye): everyone can find the group and see its content.
• Private (padlock): you can see that the group exists, but can only see its content if you are a member.
• Hidden: you can only see the group if you are a member. You can only join by invitation.

Whether you join immediately is determined by the group administrator. Sometimes you become a member immediately; sometimes the administrator must approve your request first.

1. Click Groups in the navigation bar at the top. You will first see the groups you are already a member of.
2. Choose an overview on the left:
   • My groups: groups you are a member of.
   • Open groups: all open groups.
   • All groups: all groups you can see, including private groups.
   • My favourites: groups you have saved as favourites.
   • Archived groups: groups that are no longer active.
3. If necessary, search by name using Search here at the top.

4. If necessary, filter by group type on the left, for example department or project. The filters you see vary by organisation.

   

1. Click the group in the overview. The group opens.

2. Click Join in the top right. You are now a member of the group.

   

If you need permission

1. In the group, click Request membership.

   
2. The button changes to Requested. The group administrator receives a notification.
3. If the administrator approves your request, you will receive an email and become a member.

1. Open the group.
2. Click the three dots in the top right.
3. Click Leave group.

I can't find a group

• Choose All groups on the left instead of My groups.
• Is a filter enabled on the left? Turn it off and search again.
• Is it a hidden group? You will only see it once you have been invited. Ask a member or the administrator to invite you.

My request still says Requested

• The group administrator still needs to approve your request. If necessary, contact the administrator.

I can't leave the group

• Are you the only administrator? Make someone else an administrator first.
• Are you also in a subgroup of this group? Leave the subgroup first.
