Introduction
You can install BCS Connect as a desktop app on your computer via Google Chrome. The app then opens in its own window — without an address bar and tabs — and you launch it just like any other programme from the taskbar (Windows) or the Dock (Mac).
In this article, you will read how to install BCS Connect on Windows and Mac, how to open and pin the app afterwards, and what to do if the installation fails.
Installing as a desktop app works in Google Chrome and other Chromium browsers such as Microsoft Edge. This feature does not work the same way in Safari and Firefox — see Troubleshooting.
Open BCS Connect via the correct web address (for example connect.bcs-hr.com) and make sure you are logged in. The install icon only appears on the logged-in environment.
How does installing as a desktop app work?
BCS Connect is a web application that Google Chrome can install as a standalone desktop app on your computer. You then have your own app window and a shortcut, while the content remains the same as in the browser.
Installing as a desktop app gives you:
- A separate window: BCS Connect opens independently of your browser, without an address bar and tabs.
- Quick access: you start the app via the taskbar or Start menu (Windows) or via the Dock, Launchpad and the Applications folder (Mac).
- Familiar operation: the app works the same as BCS Connect in the browser — you don’t need to set anything up again.
There are two ways to install:
- Via the install icon in the address bar (recommended): the fastest way, with one click.
- Via the Chrome menu: useful if you don’t see the install icon.
The installation steps are the same on Windows and Mac. The only difference is where the app is located afterwards and how you pin it — you can read about that in Opening and pinning the app.
Installing BCS Connect
- In Google Chrome, open the Chrome menu by clicking the three dots (⋮).
-
Click on Cast, save and share and then on Install BCS Connect… (in some Chrome versions this is called Install page as app… or the option appears directly in the menu).
- Click Install. The app will be installed and opens in its own window.
Opening and pinning the app
After installing, you will find BCS Connect as a normal app on your computer. Pin the app for quick access. The steps differ depending on the operating system.
On Windows
- Open BCS Connect via the Start menu or the Windows search bar (type BCS Connect).
- Want to pin the app? Right-click the app icon in the taskbar and choose Pin to taskbar.
On Mac
- Open BCS Connect via Launchpad or the Applications folder.
- Want to keep the app in the Dock? Right-click (or Control-click) the app icon in the Dock and choose Options → Keep in Dock.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see the install icon
- Check that you are using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Safari and Firefox do not support this feature in the same way.
- Refresh the page and check that you are logged in to the correct environment (for example connect.bcs-hr.com).
I am using Safari or Firefox
- Firefox does not support installing as a desktop app. Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
- In Safari (macOS Sonoma or newer) you can create a similar shortcut via File → Add to Dock.
I want to remove the app
- Open the app, click the menu (three dots) at the top right of the app window and choose Remove BCS Connect….
- Or go in Chrome to chrome://apps, right-click BCS Connect and choose Remove from Chrome.
