Introduction

On the homepage of the intranet you can see at a glance which colleagues have a birthday today or in the coming days. The birthdays feature helps you stay aware of your colleagues' birthdays so you can easily congratulate them through the intranet.

In this article you will read where to find the birthdays overview, how to congratulate a colleague, and what to do if a birthday is not displayed.

Whether your birthday is visible to colleagues depends on your organisation's settings for widgets and your personal privacy preferences in your profile.

 

How does the birthdays overview work?

The birthdays overview widget is shown on the intranet homepage. It displays colleagues whose birthday is today or coming up soon.

  • Birthday today: Colleagues celebrating their birthday on the current day appear at the top of the list.
  • Upcoming birthdays: Colleagues whose birthdays are coming up in the next few days are shown below, so you can plan ahead.

When you click on the name of a colleague, you are taken to their personal birthday page. There you can see all the messages other colleagues have already posted and leave your own congratulations — optionally with an image.

 

Congratulating a colleague on their birthday

Want to congratulate a colleague? Follow the steps below.

  1. Go to the intranet homepage and look for the Birthdays section (located below the Calendar).
  2. Click on the name of the colleague you want to congratulate.
  3. You are now on your colleague's birthday page. Here you can see an overview of messages other colleagues have already posted.
  4. Type your birthday message in the input field.
  5. Want to add an image? Click the image icon on the right-hand side of the input field and upload the image.
  6. Click Post comment to publish your message.

Your message is now visible on your colleague's birthday page, alongside the messages from other colleagues.

 

Tip:
Make your message personal by adding a photo, a GIF, or a fun memory. It feels more meaningful than a standard text and is something nice for the birthday person to look back on.

 

Troubleshooting

I do not see the birthdays overview on the homepage

  • Check that you are logged in to the intranet.
  • The overview is located below the Calendar on the homepage. Scroll down if necessary to find it.
  • Your organisation may have disabled the birthdays feature. If so, contact your administrator.

My birthday is not shown

  • Check in your profile that your date of birth is filled in correctly.
  • If you cannot edit your date of birth, contact your administrator.

My message is not posted

  • Make sure you have entered text in the input field before clicking Post comment.
  • If you are uploading an image, check that the file size is not too large and that you are using a supported format (such as JPG or PNG).
  • Refresh the page and try again.
