Introduction
A channel is a central place on your platform where you share news and information with your organisation in a structured way. Channels are visible to everyone, but only designated users or roles are allowed to post in them. This keeps your internal communication clear and prevents posts from getting mixed up.
In this article you will read how channels work, how you (as an admin) create a new channel and what to do if you run into a problem.
You need admin rights to create or manage channels.
How do channels work?
Channels are designed to share news and information within your organisation in a structured way. Each channel has clear rules about who can read along and who is allowed to post.
- Publicly visible: all users with access to the channel can read the messages.
- Restricted posting: only designated users or roles are allowed to post messages.
- Priority: determines how prominently messages from the channel are shown on the platform.
Users with the admin role can post in every channel, even if they have not been added as a poster explicitly.
Adding a channel
You create a channel from the Admin section of your platform. Follow the steps below to configure a new channel.
Step-by-step: creating a channel
- Hover over your own name in the navigation bar.
- Click Admin. The Admin panel opens.
- In the left sidebar, click Configurations.
-
Then click Channels.
- In the top right, click New channel.
- Give the channel a clear name.
- Optionally, add a description. This helps others understand what type of content belongs in this channel.
- Decide who can see messages in this channel.
- Decide who can post messages. You can choose:
- Specific people
- A type of user (role)
- Or a combination of both
- Click Create to save the channel.
The channel is now created and ready to use.
Give your channel a short, recognisable name (for example HR News or IT Updates) and use the description to explain its purpose in a single sentence. This helps users find the right channel faster.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see the ‘New channel’ option
- Check that you are signed in with an account that has admin rights.
- Check that you are actually inside the Admin section (and not on your own profile page).
- In the left sidebar, click Configurations → Channels to make sure you are on the right page.
I can’t post messages in a channel
- Check whether you have been added explicitly as an allowed poster for this channel.
- Check whether your user role has permission to post in this channel.
- Ask the channel’s administrator to add you as a poster.
The priority of a channel doesn’t seem to change
- Keep in mind that changes can be visible with a delay of up to one hour.
- Refresh the important-news overview and check again.
The problem persists
Still no luck after trying the steps above? Send an e-mail to support.plek@bcs-hr.com. Include the name of the channel and a short description of the problem.
