Introduction
Views is the third step in adoption: once users visit the platform regularly, the goal becomes getting them to actually read the content. A high view score means that messages, news and reference material are reaching their destination.
In this article you'll learn how to increase views on the platform. We cover four topics: the distinction between need-to-know and nice-to-know, a solid content strategy, mailings to generate views, and information management.
Views follows Increase the number of Visits in the 5-step adoption model. Without sufficient visits, high views are barely achievable.
Messaging and news provision: need-to-know vs. nice-to-know
Messages in groups and channels have news value. With need-to-know messaging, it's important that users really take the message in. By clearly distinguishing between need-to-know and nice-to-know, you give focus to what matters. This prevents users from being overwhelmed by unnecessary details.
Group membership based on personalisation aligns better with individual wishes and needs. A good distribution ultimately leads to an increase in the number of views.
Within the platform, you make this distinction through a structure of channels (organisation-wide, top-down) and groups (personalised, based on interest).

Tips for a solid content strategy
A solid content strategy helps with organising, planning and managing internal communication. It keeps messaging engaging. With a well-thought-out content calendar you plan ahead, meet deadlines and keep colleagues informed and engaged — and that has a direct impact on the number of views.

Using mailings to generate more views
Users who don't visit the platform regularly can be encouraged to visit it in various ways.
- Forced notifications (recommended for critical messages): Important messages are sent via forced notifications. All users — regardless of their email settings — then receive an email or push notification on their mobile device. As a content manager, this gives you direct influence over a message's views.
- Weekly newsletter (weekly digest): The platform can send a weekly newsletter with a summary of the most important channel and/or group messages from that week. Users can, if permitted in the configuration, turn the newsletter on and off themselves.
Whether push notifications are received depends on the settings on the user's mobile phone. The weekly digest cannot be managed by the admin — changes are carried out by our staff. During implementation you can discuss this with your implementation consultant; if your platform is already live, send a request to support.plek@bcs-hr.com.
Information management
The information structure on an intranet or community platform facilitates access to relevant data, compliance with regulations and the findability of information. By optimising information flows, you improve processes and raise quality. Pages within a clear and user-friendly structure are also found and read more easily.
There is a proven 9-step plan for an optimal setup:
- Map out needs and objectives.
- Take stock of the current setup.
- Design the information architecture.
- Create and organise content.
- Integrate with external systems (optional).
- Functional implementation.
- Test and optimise.
- Training and documentation.
- Maintenance and continuous improvement.
