Introduction
Contribute is the fifth and final metric in the Insights steps. The Contribute score measures how many users actively post messages or information on the platform. It represents the most active form of engagement: from consumer to producer of content.
This article describes the definition of Contribute, how the score is composed, the elements on the Contribute detail page, and tips for influencing active contributions.
Contribute is the final step. An active contribution requires an activated account, regular visits, read content, and prior interaction.
What is Contribute?
Contribute measures the share of users who have posted content themselves on the platform during the selected period. The Contribute score is calculated based on unique users who have posted a message. Contributions also include:
- Posting messages: in channels or in open groups.
- Creating or editing pages: contributing to reference content.
- Uploading documents: sharing knowledge through files.
- Creating events: organising activities via the platform.
What's on the Contribute page?
The Contribute page can be accessed via the Contribute tile on the main dashboard or through the left-hand navigation under Insights. The page follows the same layout as the other Insights pages.
The page contains the following elements:
- Score card: percentage of active contributors, with a label comparable to the other metrics.
- Score calculation: explanation of the numerator, denominator, and result.
- Select period: the selected period applies to all charts and tables.
- Contributions over time: chart showing the number of active contributors per month.
- Type of contributions: breakdown between messages, pages, documents, and events.
The charts on the page
The Contribute page contains the following charts:
- Top contributors: shows the most active content creators in a table, with a breakdown by type of content.
- Type of contributions: breaks down contributions by type (messages, pages, documents, and events). A large share of messages indicates a platform primarily used for communication; many pages and documents suggest use as a knowledge platform.
Tips for influencing Contribute
Contribute is influenced by how easy it is for users to post content themselves and by the extent to which active contributors are supported and recognised.

Frequently asked questions
Many reactions, few independent contributions
- Users do react, but don't yet post content themselves. This is a familiar situation and can be a logical step towards more contributions.
- Identify the most active responders and invite them personally to share something — a targeted invitation often works better than a general call.
Management posts few messages themselves
- Offer leaders support in writing contributions — a communications team that co-writes or prepares messages lowers the threshold.
- One message per quarter from a board member is often enough to demonstrate exemplary behaviour.
Can users contribute anonymously?
- Regular contributions are always posted under the user's own name. For anonymous feedback, polls or forms with an anonymity option are available.
